Lagerfeld's "too fat" comment to Adele
Adele Addresses Her Weight, Karl Lagerfeld Apologizes
'I represent the majority of women and I'm very proud of that,' Grammy nominee says following Lagerfeld's controversial 'too fat' comment.
"I'd lose weight if I was an actress and had to play a role where you're supposed to be 40 pounds lighter, but weight has nothing to do with my career. Even when I was signing [a contract], most of the industry knew if anyone ever dared say [lose weight] to me, they wouldn't be working with me."
Lagerfeld says : "I'd like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article, it changes the meaning of the thought. What I said was in relation to Lana Del Rey and the sentence has since been taken out of context from how it was originally published," he said. "I actually prefer Adele, she is my favorite singer and I am a great admirer of her. I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance. Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can't wait for her next CD."

I believe this statement was completely out of line. Do celebrities have to be skinny? I agree with Adele's quote saying if she had to lose weight or be skinny for her career she would, but her singing and her weight have nothing to do with one another. I think what Lagerfeld said was completely out of line and the apology and quote he said above afterwards is a suck up remark because he got hit by the media really hard for saying such an ignorant thing. I think Adele is a great rule model for young teens and anyone who doesn't fit in the "Super Skinny" category. She is showing people that weight shouldn't and doesn't have anything to do with being a celebrity or being successful. Adele has a great voice and is a very successful singer and i think it is outrageous that anyone would make a ignorant comment about her weight. Celebrities are very superficial and judgmental towards each other and i believe some set a very bad rule model for young teens who look up to them. Weight is becoming a bigger and bigger issue today and eating disorders are growing. Why is this? It is probably because of the superficiality in the media. I think it is a great thing that Adele is proud of who she is and she realizes her weight has nothing to do with her career and she does not need to change or be skinny because she has a celebrity status. She sets a great example showing teens that they should be proud of themselves just the way they are.
